BitDefender upgrades their antivirus suite to the 2010 package
BitDefender Internet Security 2010 has seen something of a change in focus from previous versions and is aimed more at the home user.
At this price you'll find a license for three machines and one year's worth of updates, which represents great value for money.
We found the installation and registration process quick, and the first sign of BitDefender switching emphasis to home use is the addition of BitDefender User Profiles, where a series of questions helps define your competency level. This works well as, depending on whether you're a novice or more experienced user, the interface will change to reflect this level of expertise.
If you're looking to protect laptops in the home where children will have access to them, the addition of new parental control tools will certainly appeal. These tools allow you to restrict access, set user times and generally keep an eye on the sites and applications your children are accessing.
These tools can often be heavy on system resources, but we found this not to be the case here, and BitDefender integrated the tools quite seamlessly.
What you won't find in BitDefender Internet Security 2010 are any back-up or fine-tuning tools. You will need to opt for BitDefender Total Security 2010, which ships with the same security engine, but adds a host of system improvement tools. You will also find Gamer Mode, which works the same way as in the Kaspersky product below.
BitDefender claims the major improvement with this latest version is one of speed, with a claimed 30 per cent boost in scanning speed. We found it very fast and there was no real impact on performance, allowing us to carry on working while it ran in the background.
BitDefender Internet Security 2010 is fast, easy to use and also has price on its side, making it one of the most cost-effective solutions out there.
